Needs for home grown vegetables
When deciding on a location for a home vegetable garden, it is best to discard once and for all the old idea that a garden "mud" must be an ugly place around the house.

Carefully planned, carefully planted, and thoroughly tended, they can make a beautiful and harmonious feature of the general plan, giving a comforting homely note that no shrubbery, border, or bedding can ever create.
With this fact in mind, we would not feel restricted to any part of the room just because it is out of sight behind the barn or garage. The average mid-sized site will not have many choices on the ground.
It will be necessary to take what is found and then do what you can with it. But first, there will be a great choice in terms of exposure, and secondly, comfort.
Other things being the same, choose a place close at hand, easy to reach. A difference of only a few hundred meters may not mean anything, but if the garden depends heavily on free time to work, tend and grow lots of vegetables, the latter will be of much greater importance than the former is likely to recognize at first.
You won't fully understand what that might mean until you have to make a dozen trips to retrieve forgotten seeds or tools, or get your feet wet from frost-soaked grass.
